The Public is Invited!
For watershed residents interested in learning about the latest research being done on the Inland Bays, the STAC Meetings are a rich opportunity to hear presentations and ask question. Held quarterly in Cannon 104 at the College of Marine Studies in Lewes, notice of the meetings is given on the home page of our website. Find an Expert! The University of Delaware's new Delaware Environmental Institute offers a web feature that helps you contact local scientific experts based on their expertise. This site is useful for scientists seeking advice and collaboration, media representatives, and the general public. CLICK HERE TO FIND AN EXPERT
STAC Directory Access the 2007 STAC Directory here. The directory is a listing of scientists, managers, and others interested in the scientific and technical issues of the Inland Bays, and will be updated periodically as needed. Frontiers in Nutrient Management: Sources and Solutions in the Inland Bays Watershed Wednesday January 28th, 2009 At the Atlantic Sands, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware The 10-year anniversary of the Delaware Nutrient Management Law poses a timely opportunity to re-examine the science of nutrient fate, transport, and management in Delaware. The last decade has been witness to major changes in how nutrients are handled on and between farms, coupled with unprecedented development of agricultural land for suburban uses. How might these changes affect water quality and nutrient management in the next 10 years? And how should research and public policy respond? Read More to access the Conference Workbook and Presentations The CIB Environmental Indicators Project In 2004 the Center published its first Environmental Indicators Report. Environmental indicators form the bridge between the science and monitoring in the watershed and the public audiences that rely on this information to make informed decisions. Indicators are intended to educate and engage audiences and, developed correctly, can together tell a complete and coherent story about the changing health of the Bays. Some of the current indicators include nutrient concentrations, recreational fishing, and the conversion of septics systems to sewer. The STAC of the CIB is now working to update and revise the indicators into a defensible group of measurements that describe Bay health over time and in a way that everyone can understand.
Providing Sound Science For Better Management The Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) is a standing committee of the Center for the Inland Bays (CIB) created by Title 7, Chapter 76 of the Delaware State Code. The primary responsibility of the STAC is to provide objective scientific and technical advice and guidance to the Board of Directors of the CIB and other cooperating agencies with interests in the Delaware Inland Bays and their watersheds on matters of developing public understanding, interest, and participation in the implementation of the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan for Delaware's Inland Bays (CCMP).
The STAC works under the authority of the Board of Directors and is subject to the bylaws of CIB. The STAC serves as the primary advisor to the Board on scientific and technical matters and considers all relevant scientific and technical issues brought to its attention. In all roles, the STAC strives to receive the concerns from, and to build consensus among the user groups, local, state, and federal agencies, private industries, environmental groups, the scientific community, and general public, concerning the identification of strategies and projects to implement the CCMP and to increase public participation in the work of the CIB. The STAC also serves to provide advice concerning the scientific and technical merit of proposals submitted to the CIB and by the CIB to other agencies. |
