The Delaware Center for the Inland Bays (CIB) released the results of a study to assess whether material eroding off, or transported from, the coal ash disposal site at Burton Island on Indian River is exposing aquatic life to elements that could cause ecological damage.

The study was initiated in response to citizen concerns about heavy metals present in coal ash and its potential impact on the health of the Inland Bays, and was a priority issue of concern to the Citizen’s Advisory Committee, a standing committee of the CIB Board of Directors.
