Roy Miller, Policy Coordinator
At the Center, Roy is charged with overseeing the process of updating the Delaware Inland Bays Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP). To assist in this process, Roy convened a Steering Committee composed of knowledgeable representatives from other CIB committees like the STAC (Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee) and the CAC (Citizen’s Advisory Committee), several Divisions within the State Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, the DE Department of Agriculture, the Sussex Conservation District, Sussex County government, the Southern Delaware Tourism Bureau, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. As a result of the deliberations of this group, the strategy selected is to prepare an addendum to the original CCMP that emphasizes objectives to be pursued in the next five-year period.
The original CCMP, published in 1995 was a monumental document prepared over many years by a great number of dedicated and knowledgeable persons that still has relevance today. Over the next few months the draft addendum will be refined and will be presented at public forums to gauge citizen reaction to the proposed five-year work plan prior to finalization in the spring of 2012.
When not working on the revision to the CCMP, Roy can be found volunteering on the shore-zone fish seining teams, the annual horseshoe crab surveys, serving as the Governor’s appointee to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, and participating in sport fishing in and around the Inland Bays and anywhere else that the fish are biting.
