Get Out for the Bays!
In 2020, health and well-being have been at the forefront of our minds. Now more than ever, we are striving to take better care of ourselves and each other. One great way to do this: Get Out!
The human health benefits of time spent outdoors are widely known. Those that get their recommended dose experience lowered blood pressure and stress hormone levels, enhanced immune systems, and less anxiety. There’s no doubt about it: getting outside is good for us.
But in order for our community to reap the benefits of nature, we must ensure that we are taking care of our environment. Threats like pollution and habitat loss destroy natural places and if we don’t do our part to protect them, they will no longer be there for us to enjoy.
That’s why the Center is encouraging you to join our new initiative Get Out for the Bays! Throughout the month of September, you can show your support for the Inland Bays and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Together, we can ensure healthy communities and healthy Bays for years to come!
We Need YOU!
Typically, with the end of summer comes the Center’s annual fundraising event, Decked Out. Each year, we look forward to gathering the local community together for an evening of food, fun, and philanthropy to raise vital funds for the Center’s work to protect and restore Delaware’s Inland Bays. However, in considering the unique challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, we made a very difficult decision. For the safety of our supporters and their families, we’ve postponed Decked Out until 2021.
Though this particular event is not happening, much of the Center’s work continues on uninterrupted and we still need to raise vital funds so that our projects and programs can continue. That’s why we’ve created Get Out for the Bays, an exciting alternative to Decked Out that allows the Center and its supporters to raise money to benefit the Inland Bays while getting outside with activities we love.
If you care about our local environment and want to ensure its health for future generations, please join our efforts to Get Out for the Bays!
Step One: Pick an outdoor activity you enjoy and set a goal related to that activity. For example, if you enjoy kayaking, commit to paddling a certain number of miles throughout the month of September.
Step Two: Set a fundraising goal. It can be whatever amount you’re comfortable with, whether $150 or $1,500!
Step Three: Create and customize your very own virtual fundraising page to let people know about your chosen activity and why the Bays are important to you (instructions below).
Step Four: Share your page with your friends and family and ask them to support you by donating. All the money that you raise will benefit the Center’s efforts to protect and restore the Inland Bays!
Step Five: Reach your goals and CELEBRATE! You’ve raised important funds for the good of your community and had fun while doing it!

ABOUT THE EVENT
Since 1994, the Center for the Inland Bays has worked with our numerous partners to fulfill our mission: to preserve, protect, and restore Delaware’s Inland Bays and their watershed. On September 2019, we invited our community to join us in celebrating our progress and ensuring another successful 25 years!
To commemorate our very special anniversary year, the Center did its annual fundraiser, usually known as Decked Out, a little differently. It was moved from August and into September, we took it offsite to the brand new, bay-front Lighthouse Cove Event Center at the Hyatt Place – Dewey Beach, and called it our 25th Anniversary Gala. The evening included an open bar, passed hors d’oeuvres, a raw bar, dinner, silent and live auctions, and live music by Hot Sauce. It was a legendary evening of fun and fundraising!
