Ken Parcher — Oyster Gardening Program Assistant
Ken grew up on Maryland’s eastern shore helping his family run a marina established by his father in the early 60s. He enjoyed boating, fishing and swimming on the Sassafras and Elk rivers as well as cruising excursions down the Chesapeake Bay. One of his fond memories is of sailing silently at night out the Sassafras River while fireflies blinked in the woods outlining the river banks. “A truly magical experience,” he says.
Ken spent 7 years in the Coast Guard reserve with 3 years on active duty as a commissioned officer after graduating from the University of Maryland with a BA in Arts and Humanities. After the Coast Guard, he returned to help his father in the business until it was sold in 1988 and went on to open a private CPA practice. He currently has a part-time website design and graphics company called Parcher Marketing.
Ken and his wife moved to Delaware in 2015 and both enjoy exploring the Delaware seashore’s natural wonders. He says helping the Center with the Oyster Gardening program is part of the fun of being down at the shore. It gets him out on the water and gives him a great feeling to be part of the ongoing effort to improve the Inland Bays’ natural environment.
